Thanks to Layla Grayce we were introduced to the lovely, Kathy Denness of Clairebella.  Kathy brings us "beautiful products for stylish living" and we just can't get enough of the collection of goodies. And, well - she is just the sweetest!

{Kathy of Clairebella}

{Super-Stylish Melamine Personalized Zebra Tray, $43}

We are thrilled to let you get to know her just a little bit more. Check out our chat with Kathy below and enter to win $100 to get your shop on!

{1} Tell us about Clairebella and what inspired you to begin the biz.

Initially, Clairebella started as a baby products business. I was a stay-at-home mom and always had an entrepreneurial bug. I was living in Australia and started with hand-painted kid's furniture. When I moved back to the US, I saw an opportunity to launch Clairebella. The company is named after my daughter, Claire. In 2009, we moved from moses baskets and soft goods to the personalized line we have now. We really found our niche and the line took over- to the point that it didn't make sense to try to continue with both. We now have a juvenile products license with David Textiles, who produces Clairebella fabric by the yard, burp cloth sets and blankets.

 {2} What is your all time favorite item?
{the cutest personalized cell phone cases from Clairebella on Layla Grayce, $52}

I would have to say our new product, the cell phone cases.

{Clairebella Cutting Boards - you may notice the one above from the April issue of Southern Living}

{3} What is your best seller?

Also the cell phone cases. Our glass cutting boards are close behind.

{4} When you aren't working on the latest and greatest things for Clairebella, what can we find you doing?

A morning run on a nice day is heaven to me.

{We LOVE this Place Setting for our Littles}

{5} What has been the biggest challenge having your own business?

Prioritizing your life can be a challenge. It is definitely a balancing act and when you are wearing so many hats, you have to be organized with your time. I am an artist, so organization is not my strongest point. I couldn't live without my iPhone calendar alerts!

{6} What tips do you have for other starting their biz?

Seek out someone in your industry, if possible, who can be a mentor. Always be open to learning new things. Just when you think you have all of the answers, something changes. Being open and flexible versus rigid in your business plan will help you to adjust quickly.

{7} What is up next for Clairebella?

We will have some exciting new product additions later this year, but that is hush-hush for now :). Suffice it to say, we would love to expand into broader product categories and see our patterns all over the house!

Exclusive Interview with The FABULOUS gals behind Layla Grayce plus $150 Giveaway!

Wendy Estes and Tiffany Harris have one thing in common - the passion for Layla Grayce. Wendy, a mother to 4 children, including twin 3 year old girls understands how to multi-task and what busy working moms need. She knows all about selecting the best items for babies and children. Wendy is seriously super-mom balancing her career and family life. Wendy is one of the sweetest gals we know - just so genuine.

{Wendy & her twin girls
Tiffany is their resident design buff and wow, she is just great at what she does. With degrees and education as an interior designer, certified color consultant and a current American Society of Interior Designers member -- she is pure perfection. Just recently Tiffany reconnected with her high school sweetie and married. Tiffany is constantly assisting customers with decorating suggestions and purchasing and has an amazing eye for great design. Just wait until you see her house!

{Tiffany}
Read on to get all the details on their amazing company they have built together and how you can win a $150 gift certificate to one of our favorite shops, Layla Grayce.

{a beautiful collection from Aidan Gray}
{What inspired you to start this amazing shop, Layla Grayce? Did you ever imagine it to grow so quickly? What inspires your picks on the site?}

Tiffany: Layla Grayce was built on passion and adoration to create beautiful surroundings.  We had access to some incredible furniture lines and realized there was a hole in the market because you couldn’t find them anywhere. Women have such busy lives and so little time to search out what they are looking for; we knew we could create an aesthetically pleasing virtual store where you could shop for yourself, mother, child or friend all with the click of a button.

No, we never imagined we would be as big as we are today, nor did we ever set out to be.  We often laugh at our humble beginnings, but looking back, growth was an inevitable result due to the drive and delight we both have to continue to push ourselves and always strive to improve Layla Grayce.

Inspiration is found everywhere we go and we are constantly adding new products by pushing the limits to be current and still traditionally classic.  The constant search for new products is infectious when we travel together.  Thankfully, our aesthetic is almost identical even living across the country from one another.

{the perfect pink rainbow pettitskirt dress}
{Wendy, you are a mom which automatically means you are a multi-tasker, especially with a growing biz! What advice or tips do you have for other moms out there doing the same?}

This is true. I’ve grown in to a multi-tasker, not a multi-slacker although in my next life I pick multi-slacker. Advice I give moms in business is toss the idea of balance out the window. Business needs you more one day, kids really need you the next so in my opinion balance is leaning left, then leaning right to compensate. If you’ve chosen to run a business and have children, I know it’s easier said than done but try to let go of “guilty mom,” you’ll be happier and so will those around you.

Second, try to be as efficient as possible. That starts with getting organized. A secret for managing my marketing/ web/ pr team remotely is Google. I run about 10 calendars that are shared with my team such as a blog, new product additions, social media, newsletter, press & web maintenance schedules. Employees can login to their Google account view changes, make changes and add notes and all changes are viewed real time. We’re also heavy users of Google’s document sharing. If you can be efficient by keeping organized, it should lower stress levels which trickles down to the kids.

{Layla Grayce has endless amazing things - a beautiful shop with beautiful things! This may be hard but do you have any personal favorites?}

Tiffany: Well, thank you!  Layla Grayce has over 7,500 products and some are available in multiple colors, so there is a lot to choose from.  It is so difficult to narrow down the favorites because everything was a “favorite” at one point, or else we wouldn’t have added it to our collection.  Currently, our favorites are:

Wendy and I both gave cell phone cases to everyone we know this year for Christmas. Stylish, functional and who doesn’t love personalization!

Fashion is something we used to do years ago and we decided to bring it back this past year to offer something more for our women’s department.  Ella Moss for women and a little boutique line called Decaf Plush for kids are among our favorites.

- Aden and Anais eco-friendly bamboo swaddling wraps are one of the hottest gifts on the market for new moms.  I don’t have kids, but they are so soft, I actually wear them as a scarf!

{Looking at the site, you must have quite the sense of style. How would you describe your own personal style?}

Wendy: One of the things I love most about this business is the consistent exposure to beautiful products and design trends yet no trend can replace a high-quality, well-designed classic piece.  Over time, I’ve learned restraint in design and in my home. I favor minimal, yet impactful accessories and symmetry of space. I prefer classics in fashion or my home décor in key, core pieces embellished with modern, colorful accessories.

Tiffany: Both of our homes are the official testing ground for Layla Grayce products.  If it isn’t good enough for us, then it certainly isn’t good enough for our customers.  Presently, I am in the process of finishing an 8 month remodel on my home and I can proudly say it now reflects our Layla Grayce look.  The key furniture pieces are covered in natural linen with sea glass blue accents and crisp white linen bedding.  A few antiques added into the mix and a chandelier made from an old wine barrel hang in our entry to add character.

{Take a peek inside Tiffany's home. A few little antique shell bottles on an Oly studio antiqued mirrored top coffee table. A dome chair in the entry and a dining chair with wallpaper above. Oly Studio is a new collection recently added to Layla Grayce.  The Serena Drum Chandelier was a must for Tiffany's dining room.}

{Tiffany shares her personal decorating tips with cupcakeMAG}

1) We are big believers in buying what you love and investing in pieces that can grow with your ever changing taste.  It’s easy to inexpensively update classic pieces with the color palettes that express your style of the moment.

2) A home is meant to be lived in.  Scratches and dents on furniture are proof of the love that surrounds us.  Embrace the imperfect.

3)  Express yourself.  Take risks. Mix and match new and old pieces.  Don’t let yourself become overwhelmed with the idea of redoing everything all it once and then never begin to create your own beautiful surroundings.

Tiffany tell us, "I'm currently obsessed with wallpaper. It’s like dressing your walls with your favorite fashion prints.  This one is a shot of a ceiling and a modern fan with acrylic blades so it doesn’t distract from the wallpaper print. Also, a little antique 60’s dress form that I keep in my office usually dressed with pearls and scarves for fun."

Let's get to know these FABulous gals a little more! Wendy & Tiffany tell us a few things you may not know.

{WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT WENDY!}

1) Avid sports fan. MMA (http://ufc.com  & http://pridefc.com), Dodgers, Lakers and most importantly my 10 year old son’s football team, the 2 yr undefeated metro-Atlanta champions. Go Eagles!

2) Can’t remember a joke. Can’t tell a joke. But, can laugh at them & most importantly admire those who can.

3) A Scrabble scrapper and especially liking the Scrabble app recently loaded on my ipad.

4) I work fast and drive even faster. Look out Atlanta.

5) Recipe collector. I believe good cooking comes down to 2 things, experience combined w/ an insane recipe. I enjoy reading Cook’s Illustrated and several foodie blogs.

{WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT TIFFANY!}

1.) Love Ugg boots on a cold morning at the beach.

2.) Current obsession – wallpaper.  I have it in five rooms in my own home and still want more.  We plan to add our favorites to Layla Grayce soon!

3.) Dislike the word “hate”.  I wish it could be deleted from the dictionary. Being late.  Seeing others be disrespectful to our elders.

4.) Pet peeve? Texting or talking loudly on cell phone at a nice restaurant.

5.) Sports fan of LA Kings ice hockey and Formula 1 Car Racing.

Exclusive Interview with Party Planning Goddess, Kate Landers!

We are so beyond thrilled to share our exclusive interview with the one and we mean one and only, Kate Landers. If you aren't familiar with the name you have really been missing out. Kate founded Kate Landers Events to bring her passion for party planning to YOU! Kate also has a beautiful blog filled with oh-so-sweet goodies. From FABulous guest parties, to her very own, many DIY tips and some seriously FABulous giveaways -- it is a place you just spend hours browsing. To us, the lovely Kate isn't just a party planning Goddess - she has built an empire around her name, Kate Landers and always amazes us with her work.

{1} Tell us a little about the genius behind the biz - YOU, Kate Landers.

I grew up in Southern California, which I love, miss dearly, and visit whenever I can!
I started planning birthday parties for my younger sister at the age of 10, and haven't stopped since! Combine my passion for event planning and business degree, and I decided to launch Kate Landers Events, LLC, in early 2009.
I was a ballerina for 17 years, adore interior design, party styling and design, the color pink, classic, preppy style and a style I would call "coastal cottage shabby chic". I adore cake and pastries, ruffles and pearls, animals and nature walks with my husband Ryan and our English Cream Golden Retriever Henry.

{2} How did you start Kate Landers Events, LLC?
With a business plan, loads of passion and the entrepreneurial spirit! After years of planning parties, lots of experience in the high end stationery and party favor industry, my time acting and dancing on stage and nannying, I looked at the combination of these experiences as an opportunity to launch Kate Landers Events, LLC. I tested the waters donating parties to nursery school and charity auctions, seeing how I liked it professionally as well as the clients' reactions, then decided from there to take the leap!

{Cake stands featured from Kate's Exclusive Interview with Wendy of Layla Grayce}
{3} What advice or tips can you give to other women or would you most stress for those working hard at their own biz?
Follow your passion. Research the industry. Identify your target market. Learn from others. Network. Remember that business sense is equally as important as creative skills. Be prepared to change your business plan if needed, not looking at the first as a failure, but rather as a stepping stone necessary to take you to the next level.

{4} Do you have a favorite party on the books?
Ouuu, that is a tough question! Each is a favorite for different reasons. I would say that my Mystical Mermaid Party as well as my Nutcracker Suite Ballet Party are both very dear to me.

{5} What are your favorite resources for candy & sweets for a dessert table?
Oh there are so many! You can actually find great lists of favorite resources that I used for my Mystical Mermaid {Signature Party} here, my Nutcracker Suite Ballet {Signature Party} here and my Wizard of Oz Party Collaboration with Kim from The TomKat Studio here.

AND now, back to the questions!

{6} What is the most important thing to remember when planning a party? The birthday child!

{7} So much goes into party planning. It can be a stressful, intense process. How do you make it so perfect? What do you do to stay organized when planning?

I wish I could say it is perfect, however what you see in most published parties are set up well before the guests ever arrive (something you don't normally see and enjoy for more than five minutes), and others are staged parties that someone like myself spent days setting up, so be careful not to compare your "real" party with a staged one--at least not once the little guests arrive--because it is mean to be enjoyed!

I absolutely agree it can be intense and stressful. I recommend planning ahead, starting your preparations early (iron linens a few days before, put together party favors two nights before, confirm your cake with the bakery at least 24 hours before--just to give yourself peace of mind). Whenever possible--set up the NIGHT BEFORE--not day of.

And to stay organized, you have to remember this is what I do for a career, so practice certainly helps make it appear more perfect...I always recommend a party emergency kit, with extra scissors, adhesives, first aid kit, cardstock, punches, labels, and a bizillion other things I have learned from each event, that really helps!

{Guest Party Post from Megan, Polka Dot & Stripes First Birthday}

{8} First birthdays are a HUGE milestone for many families and often the largest party out of all the years. What are your tips for making the party one you won't forget and that leaves everyone chatting?

I agree first birthdays are incredibly special occasions, deserving of very special celebrations!

I love intimate first birthday celebrations. Because first birthdays are often a celebration of the parents' first year rearing the child as well as the baby's first miraculous year of life, it can be more sophisticated and have elements of a wedding, with whimsical baby touches. I have found a first birthday that is all one one color (like white on white) can be striking.
{9} How do you entertain on a budget?

Re-purpose items you have at home (like the chandelier from the baby's nursery to hang over the dessert table, or the bunting from the playroom instantly works as hanging decorations!). Birthday cake, sweets and beverages are perfectly appropriate for an afternoon soiree, and dramatically cuts down costs!
{10} If you could plan a party for any celebrity child - who would it be and why?

Oh goodness, that is a TOUGH question! I would love to plan a party for a celebrity child who's parent wants me to plan their child's party. Going off the celebrity moms I admire, that would be Jennifer Garner, Amy Adams and Nicole Kidman. Would be honored to plan a party for any of their lovely children.
I also think Tori Spelling is incredibly sweet--but since she has tremendous party design skills herself, I don't think she'd need me!

{11} What future goals do you have for Kate Landers Events?

Changes are ahead in 2011...excited to see what the future holds! Above all, helping celebrate the lives of children, one party at a time, is my dream.

All Things Kate
